Call for abstracts - 1. Wiener Rohstofftag

Deadline: 03.03.2024

Venue: GeoSphere Austria, Neulinggasse 38, 1030 Vienna

The “Wiener Rohstofftag” is a thematically focussed symposium that brings together members of research organizations, geological surveys, government, industry, associations, administration, as well as students and the interested public. Scientific language is English, some outreach events are in German. The 2024 focus is the critical raw material Lithium.

Special topics include: Geoscience of various types of Lithium deposits, methods and case studies of Lithium exploration, processing, social licence to operate, future demand and supply.

Participation at the symposium and GREENPEG workshop are free of charge!

Call for EMU Travel Grants 2024

Eligibility and how to apply:

The student(s) should be registered for a BSc, MSci or MSc, MGeol, or PhD degree in the subject area of mineralogy at large, in a university of a country represented in the EMU (see the list of EMU Member Societies). Please send an application package to the acting and vice-president of the EMU (isabelle.daniel@univ-lyon1.fr and alessandro.pavese@unito.it).

Earth Sciences Day an der Universität Wien

Faszination Erdwissenschaften: Kurzvorträge und Mitmachstationen für Jung und Alt (Sekundarstufe 2)

Auf der Suche nach neuen Ideen für den erdwissenschaftlichen Unterricht? Interessiert am Studium der Erdwissenschaften? Oder ganz einfach fasziniert von Mineralien, Meteoriten, Vulkanen …? Dann besuchen Sie uns am Sonntag, den 17. September beim Earth Sciences Day der Uni Wien - Familien, Lehrer*innen, Schüler*innen und Studien-Interessierte sind herzlich willkommen!

Welche mineralischen Rohstoffe gibt es in Österreich? Warum bricht ein Vulkan aus und wie kann man ein Gebirge auf einer zweidimensionalen Karte darstellen? Hier wird gemeinsam geforscht, diskutiert, erlebt, gespielt und entdeckt. Für Lehrende gibt es Demomaterial, das bei der Gestaltung künftiger Unterrichtseinheiten hilft. Schüler*innen der Oberstufe und Studieninteressierte können sich in Flashtalks über aktuelle Forschungen informieren und Infos über Berufsbilder, Karrieremöglichkeiten und Erfahrungen der Erdwissenschafter*innen aus erster Hand einholen. Der Earth Sciences Day findet im Rahmen der MinWien2023 statt.

Call for Sessions

Here is the list of themes the EMC organizing committee has agreed for the EMC 2024 conference (August 18-23, 2024) in Dublin, Ireland:

Individuals are asked to provide a title for their proposed session, a brief explanatory abstract and to propose some co-convenors. Session chairs must be prepared to attend the conference in person to lead the session, but co-convenors can attend remotely (our conference will be fully hybrid). We encourage you to build strong organizing teams and to keep in mind balance in terms of gender, career experience (we are keen to include early career scientists as convenors), geography, etc. One of the key roles for session convenors is to encourage attendance from amongst their peers. Colleagues from low- and middle-income countries (www.research4life.org) will be allowed to attend the conference remotely, free of charge, so do keep them in mind.

The deadline for submission of session proposals is 31st March 2023.

From the dozens of minerals that formed during the earliest days of our solar system, the count of minerals now includes 5,780 and continues to grow. Come explore how the formation of planets, geologic processes, and interactions with air, water, and even life have diversified the mineral inventory. Through the lens of mineral evolution, speakers will show how minerals clue us in to the processes that formed them.
